This hand painted figure was inspired by the bizarre, visually striking outfits worn by doctors during the Black Death plague in 17th century Europe. People believed the disease was spread through bad air (miasma) so beak of the bird-like mask was filled with aromatic substances that would shield the wearer from the plague. These doctors were covered from head to toe in what could be called the world’s first hazmat suit.
Standing approximately 5 inches tall (13cm) each figure is a hand painted assembly of resin parts based on an original clay sculpture.
